Cain’s accuser tells a story that sounds very different from Cain’s innocuous descriptions of his own actions. In her words: “He pulled my head towards his crotch… I said, ‘I have a boyfriend.’ He said, ‘You want a job, right?’

If this is true, holy shit.

The Slate Political Gabfest (US based) talked this week about how social media takes us out of our political comfort zones. That is, in our daily lives it is likely we mostly communicate with people who are similar politically to us, but social media gives us a much larger chance to interact with the other side. My whole Facebook/Twitter is blowing up with debates right now, and hell, it is a lot more interesting than the relentless patriotism we had during the Rugby World Cup.

I’m truly saddened to learn of Steve Jobs’ death. Melinda and I extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends, and to everyone Steve has touched through his work.
Steve and I first met nearly 30 years ago, and have been colleagues, competitors and friends over the course of more than half our lives.
The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come.
For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it’s been an insanely great honor. I will miss Steve immensely.

Capital punishment is the most premeditated of murders, to which no criminal’s deed, however calculated, can be compared. For there to be an equivalency, the death penalty would have to punish a criminal who had warned his victim of the date on which he would inflict a horrible death on him and who, from that moment onward, had confined him at his mercy for months. Such a monster is not to be encountered in private life.

Now when Republicans (or the press) bemoan Obama’s supposed unwillingness to reach across the aisle and compromise, he can reply, “I already tried that, over and over and over” — and there’s a chance voters will know what he means.

Meanwhile, the root cause of local illegal downloading remains the diabolical hardship you need to endure in order to legally download files in New Zealand. At the same time as the Skynet law went live, American internet streaming media provider Netflix announced it was extending its service to include the latest Android phones. Netflix has tens of thousands of movie titles and for US$7.99 month you can watch all you like on your internet device, in any content-enabled country. Needless to say, New Zealand isn’t one of them. Now I reckon that’s aesthetically significant.
